Every student is given the opportunity to be involved in a sport, so we offer a large selection of sports in which boys and girls can participate individually or as part of a team.

Both boys and girls can choose from: Football (Soccer), Australian Rules, Touch Football, Volleyball, Softball, Hockey, Golf, Skipping, Cheerleading, and the Kilometre Club.

Boys also have the opportunity to participate in Rugby League whilst girls can choose Netball.
Tannum Sands State School also participates in CQ Sporty Schools.

Rugby League

Boys in Years 5 and 6 compete in the Foundation Cup, while 10 year old boys compete in the one day event for the PJ Marsh Cup.

Golf

Golf is offered to boys and girls.  This competition is based upon a one day event held locally.

Soccer

Football is an increasingly popular sport for boys and girls. Currently, we field teams in the Toyworld Cup and the Six-a-Side Competition.

Netball

Netball is a very popular sport at Tannum Sands for girls in Year 5 and Year 6.  Currently, we field 2 teams in the Inter School Competition.

Volleyball

Volleyball is available to students in Years 5 and 6 where we play in the local competition against other schools in the Gladstone region.

Touch Football

The 5 a side competition hosted by Benaraby State School is a one day event for Year 5 and Year 6 girls and boys.

Hockey

Hockey is played by students in Years 5 and 6. Our students travel to the Gladstone hockey fields to compete in the local interschool competition.

AFL

Australian Football is offered for boys and girls in Years 5 and 6 to compete in the interschool competition.
Other competitive sporting and recreational opportunities include: Jump Rope for Heart, Auskick, Hot Shots Tennis, Dance and Indigenous Sports.
Inter-school competitions, inter-house competitions, inter-class competitions and extra-curricular sporting activities all combine to create the chance for teams and individuals to participate in a safe and friendly environment.  Inter-school competitions allow the students who are able to provide their own transport the opportunity to travel to other venues and enjoy the friendships that develop from such activities. These events generate a deep feeling of pride for the students when competing in Tannum Sands colours.
